Co-op Fairtrade flower food
November 1, 2009
The Co-operative claims it is leading the way in the Fairtrade arena with the introduction of the world’s first Fairtrade flower food.
Fairtrade flower food will be attached to The Co-operative’s own-brand Fairtrade bouquets, which are sold in selected stores throughout the UK.
The flower food is made with Fairtrade sugar from the Kasinthula Cane Growers in Malawi, which also supplies the Co-operative’s own brand bagged sugar products.
The Co-operative currently stocks 260 own brand and branded Fairtrade products. The retailer has led the way on Fairtrade, having championed the Fairtrade mark since its inception, and its pioneering development work has helped the UK become one of the largest Fairtrade markets in the world.
The flower food is the latest in a long line of “Fairtrade firsts” for the Co-operative.
The launch coincides with the 15th Anniversary of Fairtrade, which is currently being celebrated by the Fairtrade Foundation, the Co-operative and thousands of supporters nationwide.
