Barclaycard doubles reward money on new Freedom loyalty card
Barclaycard is offering double reward money on purchases made with its new Freedom loyalty card at participating retailers until 17 May 2010.
Launched in March 2010 at over 30,000 retail outlets, including Shell and Pizza Express, as well as many small and medium retailers, Barclaycard Freedom is claimed to be one of the broadest reward schemes in the UK.
The double reward money period means customers can earn 2% on most transactions* - alongside other special promotions and giveaways in store – up to 17 May 2010.
To qualify, cardholders need to log in or register for mybarclaycard, Barclaycard’s existing online account servicing site, which allows the customer to see their reward money account.
mybarclaycard is available on barclaycardfreedom.co.uk. Reward money is recorded in pounds and pence, with no vouchers or coupons to save and no points to calculate.
According to Barclaycard, cardholders have earned a total of £164,936 in reward money in the first two weeks of launch. One of the larger amounts earned in a single transaction so far includes a £260 reward on a high-spend transaction made at a branch of Flight Centre, one of the participating retailers.
Barclaycard customers making a purchase in most participating retailers will see the value of their existing reward money balance appear on the card machine before they enter their PIN to pay and they can choose to redeem some or all of that existing reward money balance against that transaction. After the purchase, the reward money earned on that transaction is then added to their balance.
Sarah Newman, managing director of Barclaycard Freedom, said: “It’s great to see that customers are already reaping the rewards of our Barclaycard Freedom retailer coalition. With double reward money on offer until mid-May, the Easter break has been the perfect opportunity for people to earn extra.”
Cardholders can search for participating retailers and the latest offers online at www.barclaycardfreedom.co.uk or they can text ‘Freedom’ to 67777** to access a list of retailers and offers while on the move. Current offers include earn 5% reward money on a third fuel purchase of £25 or more at Shell and £5 reward money on bills over £30 at Pizza Express.
* Customers will earn 1% reward m oney on transactions at Shell during the promotion
