Spar International boss headlines Insight event
Gordon Campbell, chief executive officer of Spar International, will be a headline speaker at the Insight NACS Future of International Convenience & Petroleum Retailing Event, 20-24 September 2010.
News of Campbell's participation in the event comes as Spar, the world's largest international food chain, expands in Denmark.
Last month (April) Spar opened 18 Eurospar stores on the same day and plans 20 more Eurospar stores in Denmark in 2011. Spar's larger, Eurospar format is designed to compete with traditional supermarkets and discounters.
"The rapid expansion of Eurospar stores demonstrates that Spar is winning market share," said Campbell. "Our strength is the combination of effective local shopping possibilities, the attractive concept and the fact that independent retailers are very much in touch with the consumers’ needs. Eurospar offers Danish consumers a competitive alternative to other large supermarkets.”
Campbell joins a prestigious line up of presenters featuring nine international retail presidents/ceos.
Among the confirmed speakers are Nigel Mills, chief executive officer, Mills Group UK; Anthony Wysome, chief executive officer, Waitrose Convenience; Stan Sheetz, president & chief executive officer, Sheetz; Rodrigo Zavala, commercial retail manager, Petrobras; Scott Hartman, president & chief executive officer, Rutter’s Farm Stores; Garth Fourie, National Convenience Manager, Woolworths South Africa; Joe Barrett, director, Applegreen, Ireland and Frank Gleeson, retail director, Topaz Ireland.
The five-day event, comprises three days of store tours in Dublin, London and Paris and two conference days at the British Library in London, 22-23 September.
